37 Hatherley Street

The first recorded landlord of The Royal Union was John Sims, in 1848. A deceptively large street corner pub, in later years it was separated into the bar, a dining area towards the rear, which had been adapted from the old skittles alley, and a separate room at the front with deep sofas and comfy armchairs. In 1975 CAMRA Gloucestershire branch held their first meeting here and in 2014 gave it their winter pub award. It had a range of eight real ales and stocked award winning beers from throughout the U.K.

By 2020 only a small part it remained as a micro-pub, called the Tivoli Tap. This closed in 2023 and the building later became fully residential.
