In 1851 this property was occupied by Sarah Purnell an ‘annuitant’, or pensioner, and it may have been solely in residential use. By 1852 the property was in commercial occupancy when a milliner called E. Purnell, who was presumably related to Sarah, was here.
The trade then changed, when between 1881 and 1892 a greengrocer called C. Musty set up in business, eventually extending his remit to include the sale of confectionery. He must have sold his business soon after, as by 1900 Mr F.J. Hobbs ran a confectionery shop here.
